At “Forests & Meadows”, embracing the heritage and techniques that have long been overshadowed by industrialization is paramount. By tapping into the legacy of natural dyeing, we're not only preserving a crucial piece of ethnic heritage but also championing consciousness and sustainable practices that respect both our history and our planet.

My mission, through the “Forests & Meadows” brand, is not only to revive these traditions in my creative practice but also to inspire others to embark on this journey and discover the art of natural dyeing."

Natural textile dyeing is a tradition that has been developed for thousands of years and became an inseparable part of culture, economy, and social life. The invention of synthetic dye left this technology forgotten in many cultures, but the increasing scale of pollution from the textile industry and dwindling ethnocultural heritage inspired many, including myself, to take a second thought, turn back to the past, and seek environmentally-friendly creative methods.

EMBRASING THE PAST

Natural dyeing stands as a testament to early human ingenuity, a pioneering biotechnology where vibrant hues are sourced from nature's treasures —be it plants, fungi, lichens, insects, mollusks, or even minerals.

NATURE'S TIMELESS PALETTE

NATURAL DYEING & COLOR HARVESTING

Natural textile dyeing is a tradition that has been developed for thousands of years and became an inseparable part of culture, economy and social life.

MATERIALS

At “Forests & Meadows,” we use natural fibers like wool, linen, and organic cotton. These materials are grown or sourced with minimal environmental impact and naturally decompose at the end of their life cycle. Whenever possible, we prioritize using locally-produced fabrics and yarns. This not only supports local businesses but also allows us to gather comprehensive information about their production.

The natural dyes, mordants, and assistants we use and sell are carefully chosen from trustworthy suppliers. Additionally, some of the dyes are responsibly collected from local fields and forests or grown in our garden specifically for natural dyeing.

MINDFULNESS

At first, I believed that natural dyeing in itself provided enough sustainability. However, as the years went by, I came to understand that there's always more that can be done to enhance the responsibility of natural dyeing practices. I continually seek better ways to be respectful and mindful of our resources. For instance, I always reuse water as many times as possible to ensure I'm not wasting it. The same principle applies to natural dyes and mordants. Throughout my creative journey, I've discovered various techniques, which I'm eager to share during my workshops and at the 'Forests & Meadows' learning center.

WEAVING

Weaving is not only a traditional heritage craft but also a form of contemporary design that has evolved over time. It is a technique where threads are interlaced on a loom to create intricate patterns and textures. Passed down through generations, weaving has become a way to preserve cultural traditions and tell stories through the art of textile. However, it has also found its place in the world of modern design, where innovative techniques and materials are incorporated to create unique and avant-garde pieces. By blending the old and the new, weaving continues to captivate both artisans and designers alike. Its versatility allows for endless possibilities and interpretations, making it a truly timeless craft that bridges the gap between the past and the present.
