Purpose: while working with natural dyeing it is used as a water softener. Also, it can be added into cleaning water to prevent dirt.
Additional information:
If you have hard tap water you may use it not only while working with wool, but for hemp and linen as well.
If you have hard tap water you might have noticed that you get great results when working with madder and various yellow dyes so avoid using water softener with these dyes unless hard water is turning your fibers too harsh.
Add hexasodium salt to your water before adding other ingredients and stir well.
The quantity of water softener should depend on the chemistry of your water so start by adding just a pinch and observe results.
